Kimberly "Kimo" Shotz, L.Ac, WHCNP, RN
Aloha.
I am a board-certified Licensed Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbalist, a Women's Healthcare Nurse Practitioner (NP), and a Registered Nurse (RN) living and practicing on Portland's south-east side.
I have worked as an operating room (OR) Registered Nurse off and on for a total of 13 years since 1989 and as a Nurse Practitioner since 1997 (Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Urogynecology).
I completed a 4-year Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, Oregon. This added a whole new health and wellness perspective and skillset to my healer's toolbelt.
Integrative, personalized medicine is essential for providing faster, effective, sustainable healing from illness and injury and ultimately better overall health. My unique background in both East-Asian medicine and Western-conventional medicine serves to strengthen my insight and ability to identify and treat a vast variety of conditions. I especially enjoy collaborating with all other practitioners involved in my patients’ healthcare, including my patients themselves.
I welcome all adult patients and encourage everyone to actively participate in his/her/their healing process.
My special interests to include:
In my spare time I am cultivating my own health by exploring the Pacific Northwest with my family, friends and beloved pups, tending to our veggie gardens, playing or seeing live music, and grazing my way through the scrumptiously diverse and healthy Portland-area cuisine. The Pacific Northwest provides endless rich and nourishing adventures.

Acupuncture Relief Project, Chapagoan, Nepal
I had the very special opportunity to return to Nepal in Winter 2011 as a member of this amazing volunteer practitioner team in Chapagoan, Nepal. This experience was a treasure I documented well on my two cameras. Alas, my Buddhist lesson in impermanence, relinquishing material possessions and letting go came when I lost both my camera and video camera the week before I left Nepal. Serendipitously, I was involved in this beautiful, award-winning documentary by Tristan Koch, so there is proof I was there!
Please check out the ARP website blogs and the documentary. Thanks to ARP team and Tristan!

Acupuncture Treatment Styles That I Use
Channel/Organ (Yin-Yang). Select acupuncture points from anywhere on the body (front/back, top/bottom) stimulate and move Qi and Blood, free-up stuck-ness, expel pathogens, restore balance, nourishment, and calm the mind.
Trigger-point/Muscle motor point. Used for musculoskeletal pain and restricted movement by stimulating and or relaxing the pesky muscle fibers directly.
Electrostimulation Acupuncture. Acupuncture needles connected to a device similar to but more effective than a TENS unit, typically used for injury or postoperative recovery. It can greatly speed up the recovery process as well as enhance pain reduction. Patients love this method.
Mukaino M-Test. Gentle, simple, minimalistic yet impressively effective, in the Japanese tradition.
Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture. Thin, tiny, temporary needles or small radish seeds taped in place on the ears. Locations correspond to body parts, organs, the nervous system, and more. Ears offer powerful nervous system reset which is why it is a great option for reducing anxiety, depression, and pain.
Scalp acupuncture. Uses point locations on the entire scalp (overlying your brain) that correspond to regions and functions of the body. This method can be very potent and is often used for post-stroke rehab and neurologic conditions.
Master Tung Acupuncture. Minimal needles (3-6 total per treatment) with powerful effect. Similar to Dr. Tan's methods.
Dr. Tan's 1-2-3 and Balance Methods. Minimal needles used with powerful effect. Typically needles are placed away from the problem area/s (no needles in painful spots).
Kiiko Matsumoto Style. So simple yet oh, so complex! A few gentle, painless needles and rice cone moxa. Searches the body for instant feedback on which specific areas need attention and how to effectively treat them. Does not require much discussion. Can have profound results.
